Termite Inspection – Uncovering why so many Termite Companies failed…

When David Oates, licensed Termite Pest Technician received a call to perform a termite inspection to a home in Eltham North he was not surprised.  Eltham is one of Melbourne’s many suburbs where homes are at significant risk for termite damage. On David’s arrival at the house, the owner was devastated. She had tried many other Professional Termite Companies in an effort to eradicate the wood eating pests and all had been unsuccessful. These were Companies whose technicians hold the same credentials as our team. It makes you begin to wonder ‘what is going on?’…

David began with a full and methodical termite inspection to the inside and outside of the home.  Armed with extensive experience and knowledge of termite behaviour, the first round treatment David chose included an Exterra baiting and monitoring system.  This successfully removed one colony but, on removal of the bait boxes, it was obvious that a different species of termites had started to move in.  With a second round treatment, another troublesome colony was successfully wiped out.

In an effort to secure the home and surrounding property from further termite invasion, David also worked carefully with the homeowner, identifying areas that were likely to attract termites.  All recommendations were carried out and a termite monitoring system was actioned for the next 12 months.  The monitoring system uncovered a third colony which again was successfully treated.

Some time later, another full inspection was again carried out.  This revealed that a new colony had moved in. Interestingly, the termites occurred in the same place within the subfloor.

How did these little guys managed to bypass other companies soil treatments and treatments carried out by David?

With persistence and commitment to assist the homeowner to prevent the escalating termite related damage, David dug a deep trench across the back wall right down to the concrete footings.  Buried under the soil was an unused irrigation pipe.  He cut a section out of the pipe and ‘gee wiz’ the termites had been using the pipe as an insulated freeway thereby bypassing all treatment.  A treatment of Termidor finally left the home termite free with no further issues to date.
